Our client initially installed a traditional in-home heating system in a gypsum base concrete topping during new construction in their custom built home. They were initially looking for a finished concrete floor that exhibited a warm subtle appearance that would accentuate their home decor while offering the right mix of toughness, with low maintenance and high durability.
Surface Design Systems was contracted to customize a self-leveling topping in an off-white appearance with terrazzo strip inlays throughout which would mechanically bond to the aforementioned.
This creative design was achieved by utilizing Ardex GS-4 portland / gypsum technology as the alternative. It was designed with a unique flare by Elaine Cecconi of Cecconi Simone Interior Design consultants. The customized flooring system expectations were met, including the development of 54 pre-cast stair treads in Ardex GS-4 to achieve a consistent look throughout.
